The Real Cure For A Hangover

Monday, and more or less this entire weekend, is a big drinking holiday.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Yeah, we won't be doing anything special to celebrate it (a.k.a. leaving the house to drink), but that doesn't mean we can't talk about it.
Now, of course we're not going to advocate drinking. (that would be irresponsible...)
No. But we are advocating for not getting hangovers.
We found this video today, and thought you might like it.

HOW TO CURE YOUR HANGOVER (important stuff!)

Now, if you can't afford the guaranteed cure that this video promotes, which costs $250 (no, it's not an advertisement), we have a NUMBER ONE TIP to cure a hangover...but first, watch this video...
HEED THE DISCLAIMER. THERE IS VOMIT.

So here it is...our big reveal...

WHY CURE A HANGOVER WHEN YOU CAN PREVENT A HANGOVER
The solution is clear.
WATER. (ha, see what we did there...)
Drink lots of water before and during.
About 22oz within the 3 hours leading up to your binge drinking, and then at least 8oz every hour*. [Yes, you'll probably pee a lot, but at least you won't feel like a zombie who was the victim of a bloodsucking vampire the night before.]
This has long been a tried and true method that we've tried to promote for years in order to help friends we were drinking with (back when we had a social life) avoid those debilitating sometimes two-day hangovers. It even got us the nickname of "Water Nazi" at parties because people didn't appreciate constant suggestions that they should drink some water. Yeah, we hung out with some really mature people.
Honestly though, it had more to do with the fact that a) who wants to listen to a hungover person bitch about being hungover anyway and b) being the only person not hungover after a long day and night of drinking, especially on vacations, is a real drag.
Of course, they hardly ever listened, and even after realizing it works, would go back to the same bad behavior. Don't be dumb like that. Drink water and feel human the next day.
Another good tip is:
  • Avoid excessively sugary drinks, and make sure to eat a little something during your evening out. Even if it's just a handful of chips.
For more tips see How To Hold Your Liquor -> http://www.webmd.com/balance/features/how-to-hold-your-liquor

Now you know, the real cure for a hangover is prevention...and it's a damn site cheaper than an IV.

Have a Happy and Safe St. Patrick's Day! Drink responsibly.
Cheers!

If you go out and drink and this doesn't work, or if you have adverse side effects, that's not our fucking problem. Take some responsibility for fuck sake.

Cooking With Frank: A BBQ Dinner

That's right, food.

Ya'll know we have a culinary education, so we're been known to cook now and again, and post about it.

Inspired and excited by talking with James about owning a farm, and raising animals, and growing a garden, and making food stuff and products with the harvest, both animal and plant, we excitedly (excitedly? Sure...why not) made dinner, which we had started yesterday.

We made a BBQ sauce and marinated some rib steaks yesterday. We`d have a precise recipe if we were any good at writing down, or measuring, what we throw together. The important thing to remember about cooking is it`s mostly to taste. Meaning maybe you want a stronger flavour than the recipe calls for, or a thinner sauce, or sweeter, etc. When it comes to reading a recipe (for cooking, baking is a completely  different situation, baking is practically a science) the measurements aren't that important, tasting, and texture, is. So we`re giving you our recipe, but we`re not giving you measurements, because we don`t have any. Fun. Right?

Well, we have some rough measurements...you can play around with it as much, or as little, as you like.

Frankie's BBQ Sauce:

  • Canned Tomatoes (1 can 15oz-ish can) <-hey, a measurement!
  • Apple sauce (about 20 oz)
  • Vinegar (about 1/4 cup)
  • Brown sugar (a small fist full)
  • Worcestershire (about 1 tbsp, or to taste)
  • Garlic (2 cloves, smashed)
  • Smoked Paprika
So, you just mix all those things. You can blend it till smooth if you want, or keep it chunky - whatever you like. Throw in a few ribs, or rib steaks, and marinate for about 8 hours, or longer.

Treat like you would any other BBQ sauce, shake off the excess and throw the meat on the grill, baste as desired while the meat cooks.

All that extra leftover sauce? Reduce it and use it for other things, make sure to boil it hard to kill any pesky meat germs, or toss it out if you like to be wasteful. We boiled ours down and put it in the fridge for another day.

With dinner we also had grilled corn, vinegar coleslaw, and potato salad.

~ Grilled corn? If you have never done it try this:
Don't shuck (meaning don't take the outside [husks] off) the corn on the cob, wrap it all in tin foil and throw on a hot grill for at least 20 minutes. Remove tin foil and husk the corn. Enjoy! So juicy and retains all the flavour. We dare say all you need is a little salt...maybe. It's not normal for us to not recommend butter, but if you're watching your weight...just sayin'...

We made mayo from scratch too, because we happened to be out of it, and Miracle Whip (which The Mother has in the fridge) is just crap.

Home-made mayo is easy peasy (oh Lord, we're channelling Rachael Ray)

~ Our Whole Egg Mayo on the fly: (why whole eggs? We don't want to waste the whites, which are pretty fat free anyway, and didn't feel like making meringues, so it won't hurt to keep 'em in there)

Whisk together:
3 whole eggs
3 Tbsp white vinegar
Splash of Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp salt
Add in, by DRIZZLING oil slowly and whisking:
1 cups olive oil
2 cups vegetable oil

What you are doing here is called emulsifying. If you add too much oil too fast it will split - meaning the oil will separate from the rest of it, it will make an oil slick, and then you'll have to toss it out.
We opted for trying to use our Kitchen Aid mixer with the whisk attachment, and judging from our past with emulsified foods (such as hollandaise sauce), we would have gotten better results using a little elbow grease and pulling out the hand whisk.

Make sure you taste it, sometimes you can end up tasting the oil too much. It's important to use fresh oil. Oil stored for too long after being open can go rancid, and that is not a nice taste.

NOTICE: This makes about 1 QT of mayo...so, maybe do a version with 1 egg, because what the fuck are we going to do with all that mayo now?!

So here was dinner....

The dressing on the Slaw, which consisted of red cabbage, green cabbage and carrots, was simply vinegar, honey, salt and pepper, to taste - we mixed it last night and stirred it occasionally for 24 hours. It was a nice accompaniment with the heavier foods, cut the fat, so to speak.

So there you have it. We hope to work on some more food entries, but we have lots of other things to do too. Still have to get to the canvas and finish some paintings before we start another, and it looks like this week we're going to look at a big plot of land in the country, about 4 hours from where we currently are. Should be fun.

A Follower Count Represents...

We originally posted what is to follow this short intro on our Tumblr account last month. We have been inspired to post it again, here, because of "trends" - not the official trends, just what we see people commenting on a lot.

Also, we've been culling our numbers again. However, we have not been unfollowing active people - except on a VERY rare case they are just asstards, are more boring than paint drying in the savannah. Some of us have standards, after all, and we'd like that to extend into our social media usage. Note, standards, not to be confused with being "Elitest".

Most of the accounts we are unfollow are business accounts that we followedback in the early days of our account. Ones with 20,000 followers, who follow everyone back, in order to have access to their feed and post things about apps, technology, and other various bits of advertising, propaganda and sometimes nothing more than "famous quotes" (surprisingly those are usually people who say they are writers or authors).

Those accounts who look like they follow everyone back, so they must be "nice" accounts? That was us, we did that for a long time...but then we couldn't give due attention to all the real people, so we started using lists...but then we ran out of list room, so then we started a locked account that only we have access to in order to make more lists. Then we started thinking...this is dumb.

So, at risk of being unfollowed back, which is happening in huge amounts, we decided to start unfollowing MORE of those big accounts that are hooked up to auto-unfollow applications. Sticking with them out of fear of unfollowing just inspires businesses to keep advertising on Twitter (dislike) PLUS a follower account...well...

A Follower Account Represents…

Fuck all.
With cartoons!

Do you know who is following those big accounts with severely disproportional follower percentages?
  • Accounts that haven't Tweeted, or been back to Twitter, in anywhere from a month, or more, sometimes since the day the account holder decided to find out what "this Twitter is about".
  • HUGE accounts who are on Twitter to purely peddle books, films, entertainment, information...who never read a Tweet.
  • Porn bots, until they get suspended...which can be weeks, even months.
  • Tons of dead accounts.
  • PURCHASED FOLLOWERS
  • Who the fuck cares.
So, when you look at a follower count and think "this person doesn't follow everyone back, they are an asshole"...Think.

Think...why would they...keep following dead accounts, spam accounts, accounts that don't have a real person behind them, only automated applications used to monitor Twitter...people who tweet about stupid fucking shit all day, like "Oh, I'm going to the bank now" who don't make it "interesting"...accounts that all they do is quote music, people from history, poetry other people have written, lines from movies.

Having said that, someone who is following less than 1000, who has over 7000 followers is simply in Twitter for "the game"...you know the "game". *coughs* Favstar. (likely...though not always)

Want to follow accounts that you'll enjoy? Follow who you find funny, regardless of their follower account.

Don't worry about how many people they are following back...be interesting if you want followers, if you're not interesting people won't keep following you just because they initially followed you back anyway.

Twitter is layers of entertainment, communication, social networking, etc.

Even we follow people who don't follow us back...people we find funny. Want honesty? Almost 1/3rd of our followers are people who haven't been on Twitter in months, some since we started Tweeting October 13, 2010. It's why we're not following them back, why would we?

Follower accounts represent jack all at the end of the day, the same as follower account means jack all in off-line life...

But whatever.

You keep thinking it matters, we'll keep not giving a fuck about THAT.
For the love of all that is sanity, we plan to start unfollowing people who keep making Tweets about needing followers, or the amount they need to get to some stupid fucking follower account achievement.

Like we've said, we never came to Twitter to be fucking "popular", we plan to leave the same way we came in.

We Get Graphic

Misleading, we know. You're thinking...were's the boobs...this doesn't look graphic.

Play on words is fun. We're sometimes a smart ass...when we're not a dumb ass.

Back in November we wrote about some of the stuff we do in our spare time, notably graphic design stuff using our Tweets and some design ideas we come up with, to be put on products and such, because, well...why not? When we don't have access to canvas and paints we need some alternatives.

What, you think we just sit and waste time on Twitter all the time? Though it's no secret that we love Twitter, we do other stuff, besides play around on it, and other social media, and write...we draw, sketch and paint, learn stuff, play around with computer software, work on our therapy, come up with recipe ideas - we're not very good with just sitting and doing nothing, it causes an overwhelming feeling of ick and a little depressed, makes us feel like we're wasting our time, life and creativity. That's just us though, we're odd and mentally "ill". Creativity keeps us stay sane...as much as we can manage some days. Boredom? What's that?

We wanted this to be about why you shouldn't steal people's Tweets, about how they are intellectual property, but you know what...half the people aren't going to care. You don't...until you find one of your Tweets on a product one day, anyway, and someone is making money off of it. Then you might care.

Of course if we ever find our Tweets on products where someone is making money, well...the Library of Congress has a neat little data system where we can prove the Tweet is ours...eventually (it's called a copyright), and sue. Why not. We're American. It's the American way.

Or maybe we're not that petty. We're probably not.

The point is, Twitter is a micro-blogging website, much like this site is a "macro-blogging" site. And as such things written there (and here) are protected by copyright.

We're not going to get on a high horse about copyright infringement, though, we fully admit to the "occasional" multimedia download, it's a great way to discover new music. Don't fucking judge us...and don't steal our fucking Tweets, we use them for shit

We decided a couple of months ago that we can do fun things with the 140 character spew we create known as Tweets, have some fun, be creative, and so, we created Frank Graphic Apparel.

We decided to use a website called Printfection for the clothing designs, instead of the more popular Cafepress simply because they have a lower base price by an average of about $2 per product, and much more customization ability, which means if someone wants to buy one of our products the price for them is lower than it would be at Cafepress, and each product has the design placed where we want it. We plan to use Cafe Press for buttons and bumper stickers someday though, because Printfection doesn't have those as a product option.

[Added February 20th: Why did that paragraph get crossed out? We decided to use CafePress anyway - they have a better reputation...so while the designs below will be available through Printfection for now, while we set up shop, they will also be available on even more products at CafePress soon. We're always evolving over here with stuff...sorry for any inconvenience.]

Anyway, we finally completed a nice "showcase" page for Frank Graphic Apparel http://frankapparel.blogspot.com/ because one of the gripes we have with Printfection is an ugly "store front" with poor design options. We find that what we created using a customized Blogger template looks better.

The following is an example of some of the designs and products we've created in the last couple of months, there are many available, thirteen graphic designs in total, in different sizes, colors, on a variety of different products and apparel.

Jumbo Tote Bag
Examples of more products with this design...
Women's Fitted Cap Sleeve Tee
Hooded Sweatshirt

So there you have it. Some of our designs. What we do in our copious spare time. They are all one-of-a-kind, only available through our Printfection store, and great gifts for the person who likes to have something not everyone has, and the prices are pretty good.

Before you think we're going to make tons of money on this venture, know that we only profit $2 USD or less per item; Printfection charges a base price for the raw product and printing services. This is just a hobby, as is everything else we do. We've got other fun ideas up our sleeve too.

We're off for the weekend. We'll be back to blogging on Sunday or Monday, we're off to London to stay with a friend for the weekend and go to an art museum with James/The Boyfriend. Eat some yummy food and take a load of photos for our Adventure Blog.

It would be a great time to catch up on our blog, if you feel like it...we produce writing nearly every day and some people have told us that it's sometimes hard to keep up.
