The New Discrimination: Because Freedom Is Only For Straight People

Words can be dicey. There's no question about it. Words can be so dicey, especially in the Constitution, that sometimes they even get their definitions changed by the Supreme Court in order to make things seem like they are saying something they are not.

Today, in Arizona, a bill was passed to allow open discrimination of people, a bill that needs only the signature of the Governor Jan Brewer to be officially put on the books. There should be little doubt that it will be struck down by the Supreme Court for being unconstitutional, but in the meantime, it's something to ponder.

According to Tracey Stewart, of the Arizona Anti-Defamation League, the bill is a "state law allowing business owners to turn away gay and lesbian customers, employers to deny equal pay to women, or individuals to renege on contract obligations–as long as they claim to be doing so in the name of religion." (1) [italics mine]

Now. The First Amendment seems pretty clear, depending on interpretation. Isn't interpretation fun? Sure it isn't. More hate, intolerance and violence has been in the name of someone's interpretation of some text for over thousands of years than most care to acknowledge. But let's look at an interpretation and think about it, maybe have a conversation about it.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." (2)

The bolded part is the part we're going to focus on here.
'Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof'

Let's break it down and look at the word 'establishment'. Now, people who hate individual freedom (and if you think that people who are gay shouldn't have the same basic rights as you, then you are against personal and individual freedom, so don't even play that game) will jump on the first definition and scream "It means Congress can't make a law preventing me from establishing a religion. But it can make laws based on my Christian beliefs. This is 'Murica!"

Another, more rational person might view this statement and see it as "Congress shall make no law in favor of a religious organization/group"

See how those two could be viewed in completely different ways? See how one makes more sense when it comes to keeping politics out of religion, and religion out of politics? Apologies, we've been studying the writings of key founding fathers and writers who influenced the forming of this country in a class called American Political Thought, and it's pretty clear they thought mixing politics and religion were dangerous.

Okay. The second part of that says that Congress cannot prohibit you from practicing your religion; meaning they cannot stop you from going to church, or prevent you from praying. They also cannot make a law requiring you to do any of those things.
Congress also cannot pass laws that will make you be a murder, or adulterer, they can't force you to worship a God that is not your own, they can not force you to be blasphemous, steal, lie or stare at your hot neighbor's ass against your will. (These are all related to things in the 10 Commandments, the principles of ethics and worship). They cannot make a law that forces you to do any of these things which would prohibit you from freely exercising the tenants set forth by, what amounts to the Constitution of Biblical Law.

As an aside, since when did being bigoted, hateful and/or intolerant to groups of people become part of the 'free exercise of religion'? Does the Bible not state to love thy neighbor as thyself (Mark 12:31) and to love thy enemy (Matthew 5:44)? So where does 'turn away those icky gays because you don't approve of their lifestyle' fall into that? *hears crickets*...we digress.

Back to it, why then do the Powers That Be (All Hail Congress) think that a law, that enables segments of the population to be discriminated against because (some) religious people don't like them, can pass U.S. Constitutional muster?

It's baffling, the ignorance of it all.

But let's look at some other issues...
First...some have hinted that the bill may deny equal pay to woman...on religious grounds. Maybe we missed that commandment or verse - 'Thy women shalt not earn equal pay...because vagina.'

That blows. Just got a pay-cut for being born with this stupid vagina. Thanks, God.

Second...How will these Christian owned businesses ID members of the LGBT persuasion?
Is entering the store with someone of the same sex the clincher. Because really, straight guys obviously do not go shopping together, duh.
or
Is it if you both "have the gay look"...and what does that even mean?
Do these gays have the gay look?

Oh, you mean gays that are easy to pick out of a crowd like these...
Sacha Baron Cohen
Not actually gay
Carson Kressley
Totally gay
Because if someone doesn't look gay how are you going to prevent doing business with them...Arizona Christian Business Owners? Guess you could get them to talk and see if they sound LGBT. Because there's nothing like falling back on stereotypes...0_o

How about holding hands? Shows of affection? [don't know about what you've observed but even straight females that are close friends are very affectionate with each other publicly]
Will people of the same-sex be able to hug each other in your place of business without you raising the Gay Alarm?

Maybe you should have "them" wear badges  so you can more easily signal them out, so you don't accidentally sell them some crap on your shelves made in China by children, or chemical-laden shampoo, or art supplies, or maybe they should affix a symbol to their house or door so you don't accidentally go into their big gay houses and accidentally fix their big gay furnace.

Eeek!

And think about this.
What if you, as a Christian, went into a store owned and operated by a Buddhist, or a Jew, or an Islamic, and you were denied service under suspicion of being a Christian, or because of the cross on your neck, got asked to leave and never return.
What if it was any number of non-Christian God based religions who didn't want to serve you because of who you choose to worship.
Further, religions aren't hard to create [see: L Ron Hubbard and Scientology].
Hell, the government even considers Atheism a religion (3)!
Bottom line...whose religious beliefs and when/where would it end...that's basically it.

Oh, go ahead, tell people you won't serve "the gays", put up a little sign on your door saying you won't serve the LGBT community; but don't be surprised when you end up on countless lists and websites of banned businesses and have to close down because the only people shopping at your store are the other homophobes.
Sure, you don't need that "creepy transgender person"'s business, but you probably need his/her sister's business, and his/her mother's business, and all of their friend's and family's business...because if you have a business that refuses to do business, they can always go somewhere else. After all, WalMart will welcome all of them with open corporate arms. IHop will serve them coffee just the same as they'll serve the coffee to the person at the next table twisting their little cross pendant anxiously, in fear that they "might catch the gay". You can bet that billion dollar businesses, and ones that have managed to survive in cities and towns that have undergone corporate overhauls didn't do it by refusing to serve "those people".

This may have spiraled into a tangent.

Apparently people have not thought through the implications of such a bill/law. They don't see how it could turn around and bite the very people who feel vindicated because of it right in their self-righteous ass. Who knew fear could look so ugly (okay, it's not really that shocking).

Look, nobody is making you be friends with people of the LGBT community, an exchange of money for goods and services isn't a date (at best it's a little capitalistic prostitution).
They're (rational people) asking you to "allow" "them" to buy shit from your stupid store, maybe eat some sub-par crap you threw onto a plate in your disgusting restaurant, maybe have you do a poor job fixing the gutters on their house at exorbitant prices. Freedom means not being subject to segregation, to have the freedom to go where you want, shop where you want, eat where you want, access services you want/need.

Freedom isn't just for Christians, and it isn't just for straight people, and it isn't just for white people, and it isn't just for people whose lives you approve of. Freedom (at the length any remains) is for everybody.
Maybe you're living in a different America, one that wasn't founded on the principles of working towards a nation of freedom.

It's okay, you can be scared (goodness knows how much who someone else has sex with directly affects your life in a personal and scary way) - but you should do it more tactfully, because the younger generations are watching you, learning from you, and what they are learning is that you're irrational, hateful, intolerant, and insane...and you're doing it in the name of the God you want everybody to love.

Sleepless Nights And A Hateful Personality

Sleepless nights.

We know it's getting close to the time where we have to record here, or anywhere at least, some of the events from last year...things about our network of  "real life" friends, things that went on behind the closed doors of our apartment, our mind; and more things related to Fuck Face and the hand he had in our systems mutiny of The Other Girl, the personality we all recognized as our core - even though now some of us are having doubts about her being our core. Some of us are feeling, rather some of us feel, she somehow my have been the stronger personality. She was very controlling of her life, while letting people walk all over her. But that leaves us without a core...and we don't know if that's possible.

How do we know this? That we're getting close to another "purge"?

Lately, late at night, while we toss and turn trying to sleep we keep getting repeated flashbacks of certain events that took place last year about this time...it's making it hard to sleep. It's almost like each personality involved is trying to "copy" the memory for each other...pass it on, like a a computer, in the darkness of night, on a repeat cycle.

It's making it hard to sleep.

During the day time it's not much better, some days. We are getting what we will refer to as "imagery", because it's not a hallucination, necessarily. Brooke (one of the personalities in our system) is playing tricks with us. Like we've written before she used to do things last year like try to get us to throw our cellphone over the bridge we walked over everyday, knowing it would hurt us...she used to try to get us to imagine, trying to get us to do it, stepping in front of city buses on the way home from work on very bad days she was around. When we got our last job, before we were forced to leave the country in which we were living, she would tell us how funny it would be if we would stick our hand in the deep fryers at work. We have no doubt that she was the one that convinced us to swallow a load of pills with vodka, our suicide attempt around the time of our 21st birthday.

Her new thing is guns. She got sparked by something, probably we read on Twitter, gun related. So during the day, while we sit on the mattress in the bedroom where we sleep and spend most of our day working on the computer she likes to get us to imagine guns, putting the cold barrel of a handgun to our temple...and then she says wouldn't it be funny to do that...but then goes farther and she gets us to pull the trigger.

None of the imagery involves blood, it just sets on repeat. Putting the gun to our temple, fingering the trigger...oops. Oops our ass.

We have no idea where this is coming from, where any of her hate is ever coming from. She only hates us, and likes to alight herself with people she knows are capable of hurting us. She was a big fan of Fuck Face, even though many of the things he did we're because we allowed him to do it, at least at some points.

Some therapists might consider this, Brooke and her imagery, borderline schizophrenic in symptoms, we're sure; but the fact that we consider her to be part of our system, one of us...makes it not so. Despite the fact that she hates us, we love her...there is just something..."wrong"...with her. One day we may find out, when we're in a safer place to finish our mapping and find out where she fits in.

We told James about it this weekend, walking home after dinner. We try to tell him as much as we can with what goes on in our head, even if it's a couple of weeks after symptoms have started. Sometimes it's very hard to talk about...to write about...to admit. A certain amount of shame is felt by some of us, in allowing her to play with us in such away, about not being able to block her out. We also wanted to tell him, at the moment, Friday night, because we managed to articulate it, and it's his right to know, as our partner, our lover, our boyfriend, our friend.

We also told James for safety reasons. We know that target shooting is something he'd like to do when we get back to the states, and so would we. We've held handguns, shot pistols, rifles...we've made shotgun shells and had a gun training when we were younger (about the age of 12), we like guns as far as a recreational activity. We come from a family of hunters. We have a respect for firearms. Though we're not even sure we could get a temp license to shoot in a range. They don't let people with our kind of mental health background handle hand guns...(or have life insurance, or donate blood...)

This entry is not meant to scare anyone, or concern anyone (dad, mom, other family & friends) - it is meant to share with people the battles that are fought with mental health issues, and also to get it out of our mind, so that perhaps we can get some decent sleep.

A quick note on sharing.

Mental Health Month is coming up soon (in May) and we have launched a website dedicated to helping others share their stories of life with the public, a year round venture, because with understanding comes acceptance, and working towards demystifying "mental illness". Ivy wrote about it a few days ago, and we're trying to be all on board with it (not completely successful so far), so we may be mentioning it often in the next month - for more info check out what she wrote a couple of days ago: http://just-call-me-frank.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/frank-mental-health.html or just go to the website for more information: www.frankmentalhealth.org

Some Days...

Some day's it's a revolving door...if life didn't suck so much on a inner-interpersonal level we'd probably try to figure out our patterns...but we can't even keep thoughs straight sometimes. (and that means some days, when the mood moves us, you get more than one blog post to read, like today)

At least one of us is growing weary of Twitter, we love the real people...it's the fake ones, and the ones who are fucking bitches and assholes, who have no scruples, like the horrid people around every corner of real life who spread evil because they are full of hate (or like that horrid cunt who attacked us at the begining of the week) that make us want to fry some bitch in a car fire.
You don't talk to us, or ANYBODY, like that.

*deep breath*

We know that makes us hypocritical, an eye for an eye would make the entire world blind, but in a world where evil goes unpunished, and victims are blamed...fuck that. It makes us want to be a vigilante.

Anyway, so if we seem a little brash these days, it's because Fuck.You. fake people - you trying to say Twitter isn't this, Twitter isn't that...Twitter is whatever you make it, so if you want to be a miserable cunt, and make it a miserable place, then you go ahead, but keep the amazing people, and us, out of it, because YOU.DON'T.KNOW...and you don't care...about anything but yourselves. You self-ritesous fucks. I'm so tired of people.

~Sam & et als

Yeah...now there's the insane rambling.

'Brooke Gets The Better Of Me' - James' Blog Post

Imported from his blog...we've got no response to this (currently, maybe ever...) now we have to run on over and finish our post for the night, it's the rule tonight...before Twitter OR wine...we have to do our post! *runs really fast*

---------------
Tonight (Monday 12th September) has been a wonderful night chatting to Franky and one that I will write about tomorrow (time permitting) but this post concerns Sunday night and a night I do the unthinkable, I cave with Brooke and let them down.

As has been the case over the last few nights the chat has been strained and not the happiest of times. They got some (more) bad news about their house and it upset them and they become very worried about how it was going to effect their (our) future plans.

As the evening went on the tension between us grew and we were both snipping at each other. They said they were going to have an early night which to be honest suited me fine, I needed to get up early and I was, for the first time, feeling that the negativity aimed at me was getting a little much. But then a switch and they no longer want to go to bed. I made a comment about they should go to bed (may have been to tell them to do their teeth, a little ritual we have when Skyping) and they snapped at me and rather childishly perhaps I said "well I'm going to have an early night anyway". I don't recall why it was bothering me so much tonight, I don't think there was anything specific, I think it had just been such an upsetting week that it just got more than I could handle without saying something and I didn't want to do that. Unfortunately I couldn't keep the look of sadness off my face and this didn't help none; we both (all) often feed off each other's emotions and we bring each other down.
Some more snipping ensues and with a rather snotty "going to bed, night" I go. I end the call, something I never do (the only other time I've ended the call, they asked me too as they didn't want to).

I instantly regret it. I sit and stare at the monitor and notice within minutes they sign out of GTalk so I couldn't call them back anyway. They were so vulnerable and upset and I left them.

At some point during the night I wake up and check their blog and tumblr to see if there's anything about it and sure enough, there was. And it was written by Brooke.

Their Tumblr post - Superpower

I don't know why I didn't suspect her. But that's even worse. I left them thinking it was someone other than Brooke, that it was a younger alter who was just upset, angry, confused and I left them. If I had known it was Brooke I may still have gone but that might have been justifiable. The fact it was (if not all, mostly) Brooke should make me feel better but it doesn't.

I don't normally call them in the morning but I did Monday. I wanted to make sure they were ok, to hear their voice and tell them I'm sorry and that I do love them and I want to be with them. I say to you all now, as I have done many times before, I love them and I want to be with them and nothing is going to make me feel differently or doubt it.
Brooke says in her post "that look on his face where I can tell he is questioning having a relationship with us" I may have looked upset and maybe angry but I never, ever question or have ever questioned, having a relationship with them.
I love them. I love them all. I love them for who they are and everything they are.
But tonight, despite their protests against the idea, I let them down.

The distance thing is a killer. In just so many ways. It effects how I deal with things, it effects how I take things, it effects my thoughts, opinions and feelings. But I'll be back with them very soon and it will be ... wonderful.

Brooke: I'm sure you're very pleased with yourself. Enjoy your moment. I still love you.

To Frank et al: I love you. I miss you. I'm so sorry for leaving you - and I mean both 3 weeks ago and last night. Please forgive me. I'll be back with you very soon. Stay strong for me my beautiful Angels. I love you.

Why Most Of Us Dislike Our Mother

To The Mother: If this is the day you decided you would read our blog (then you're dumb), we suggest you don't. Don't bother doing it today. There are things we need to say about you, again, and you'll probably get upset; just a warning from one of us who still likes you.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
We don't know, maybe you had a great mother who took good care of you, who did whatever it is that good mothers do. We don't know much about that - we have a mother, but she wasn't really a good mother. Ever. She used to be proud of the fact that she was more of a friend than a mother. She wasn't even a friend, but maybe her saying that is why we suck at being a friend (other than it's hard to be friends with people when we are how we are).

She took us to our first porn store when we were 13, our fist gay bar the same year; she put us on birth control at that age too, even though we were a virgin until we were 17. She smoked pot in front of us, she drank with her girlfriend in front of us, she was innappropriate. We knew things about her sex life at that age that no child should ever know. We saw things that at the time we just laughed off. Your mother showing you what a strap on looks like, even if it is over her clothing, is a strange thing to behold. She took away our childhood over and over again; abusing us in various ways, leaving us (thank god) so we had to raise Angry Brother and Baby Brother, becoming a surrogate mother at the age of 12...The Other Girl had her life stripped from her over and over, sometimes she got it replaced by getting one of us. That was all after the first 12 years of previous torture.

One night when we were staying with her for the summer her girlfriend got angry at The Other Girl and locked her out of the apartment. The Other Girl slept the night in the apartment stairwell while people passed her on the steps, scared because in the apartment building next door recent to that day, a woman had gone missing from her front door, her keys in the lock...her purse left on the floor. The Mother did nothing to stop this, from us being forced to sleep alone and scared, in the same building she was in.

Mothers. Hmmm...If you were or are a good mother than kudos to you. There must be books about it so we can't figure out how she didn't know how to do it. If you're going to have more than one kid maybe at some point you should figure out how to do it right. - The Other Girl and The Brothers were not an accident - we were all planned.

The Other Girl loved her mom much more than we do. We "love" her. Don't get us wrong. We love her for keeping The Other Girl alive for the first 12 years of her life, before she left us, and keeping us in one physical piece during that time. She couldn't keep us in one piece psyhologically...because she never should have had children. It's why we're not going to be a mother someday. It's hard enough to keep our shit together for our cats (who, by the way, are totally neurotic).

The parts of us that love her, and some of us do more than others, are those that are content with the way we are. We really don't remember being any other way. What would life be like for We...without the We...what would life be like...who would we be? ... what is your life like?

Meh.

So we tried to find some images to put here for Mother's Day to express to The Mother something, some sort of sentiment...apparently no matter how many times you try to serch "Mother's Day" with the words evil, bitch or whore...it will just not produce a desired image...

Some ass hole (okay it was Fuck Face) last night (who dislikes his own mother - not much though) said "People like to have someone to blame" when we told him we were doing an "anti-mom", "why we hate The Mother" blog post.

Someone to blame?

Yeah, well, who are we going to blame? Our core (that's the name of the birth personality - The Other Girl)? We're not going to blame a fucking child for splitting her personalities to deal with neglect, emotional, mental and physical abuse...nope. Not going to do it. We blame her, we blame The Mother. She took what could have been a healthy child and she turned it into us.

Want to read a couple stories to learn why we have every right to dislike her?
Those are stories written by Frank, with the help of Bethany (as far as we know it was only Bethany that helped with those stories). Bethany came first, as far as we can tell. She doesn't have many stories to tell. Bethany is 6 years old. It's why Frank and We have been trying to get her to tell us stuff from our past.
So there you have it. Happy Mother's Day to the good moms....and FUCK YOU, all you terrible selfish woman who had babies when you can't even take care of yourself.

~Cassandra and Catherine

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the month of May, Mental Health Awareness Month, we will be posting this at he bottom of each of our entries, to help provide additional information about us, and about DID/MPD

10 Things You Should Know About US That MIGHT Surprise YOU:
  1. We used to be a Baptist missionary (yeah, can you fucking believe that shit?!) [we are NOT religious]
  2. We were once married (didn’t last long) [one of our stories talks about him]
  3. We have had nearly 30 physical addresses in 30 years, mostly as an adult (nothing could contain us in the early days) [we actually own a house, but choose not to live in it]
  4. We’ve lived in 2 countries: 1 province and 6-7 different states (running much)
  5. We have lost 120 pounds since the age of 24 (100 of it when we were 24) [and it's close to 140 pounds now)
  6. We have a full time job (well, now it's 32 hours a week - but they actually let us work around the other humans!) [it get's harder everyday, and this is the longest we've ever had a single job since we were 17. We've been there almost a year]
  7. We deal with social anxiety type symptoms every day (and these days we choose not to leave home much, but for going to work) [there are about three people we feel comfortable with being in public with and sometimes we have to be out there alone]
  8. We have multiple “mental illness” diagnoses (doesn't everybody?) [p.s. all misdiagnosed]
  9. We have two beautiful cats, who piss us off every day (but they are special, because they put up with us) [though one of us hates them beyond belief]
  10. We have struggled to survive, over and over, defeating the odds thrown against us (read our stories) [seriously, how are we not dead yet?]

We've copied the stories written here that are specifically about our past (mostly abuse) and moved them to our other blog, called:
Addressing The Issue of Frank: The Origins, History and Life Story of Frank, from "Just Call Me Frank: One Womans Endeavour At Being Frank"
Some of our writing on this blog we like to promote, these are those entries since mid-January 2011. There are bits of writing in this blog that we do not actually promote due to embarrassment over things that some have written - they are here for our own tracking - they are angry, mean, scary things. If you feel like it you can find them on your own. Here are the highlights of what we have written so far this year:
